Charlestown High School is a large, open-enrollment Boston Public Schools high school serving 978 students with diverse learning needs. Our school is organized into 7 Small Learning Communities (SLC)s, each of which is designed to support a specific population of students. Along with a 498 general education students, we have students enrolled in our unique alternative education SLC (Diploma Plus), in our Spanish and Chinese Sheltered English Instruction SLCs, and in our Special Education SLC, which has programs for students with autism, multiple-handicaps, and other significant cognitive impairments. Overall, 88% of our students qualify as low income; 24.9% are on Individualized Education Plans; and 40.5% are English language learners.
