The mission of the Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) is to strengthen Boston's communities and its workforce by connecting youth and adults with education and employment opportunities that align with the needs of area employers. Founded in 1979, the PIC collaborates with Boston Public Schools, higher education, government, labor, and community organizations to develop and implement strategic priorities for increasing education, training, and employment options for Boston residents.
The PIC works where business and community interests intersect, addressing the talent and diversity needs of employers while creating career pathways for Boston youth and adults. In 2015: the PIC connected 3,310 teenagers with summer jobs; helped over 400 dropouts re-enroll in high school; supported 433 students in their transition to community college; and oversaw Boston's career centers which served more than 16,700 job seekers in its role as Boston's Workforce Development Board.
