Summer Search is pleased to have worked closely with The Charles Hayden Foundation for the past ten years. During this time, Summer Search has excelled at investing in those students who are most in need of our services as 100% of our young adults live in underserved communities where they are surrounded by violence, drugs, poverty, low expectations and messages that discourage investing in their education. Through referrals from our partner high schools, we recruit students who demonstrate qualities of character and the potential and interest to defy these messages of underachievement. In recent years, Summer Search has greatly expanded our college and financial aid counseling program, and in-college support services both internally and with partners such as The Bottom Line. These services are coupled with life-changing summer experiential education programs and access to a full-time staff mentor who guides students through all aspects of their journey from high school to college. As a result, Summer Search students graduate from college at rates nearly eight times higher than their low-income peers nationally (In New York: 84% and in Boston 85% vs. 11%).
