Rooted in work begun in New York City in 1857, and incorporated in 1947, Good Shepherd Services (GSS) is a leading youth and family development agency serving nearly 30,000 participants annually through 88 programs. GSS’ mission is to surround at-risk New York City youth and their families with a web of supports that promote a safe passage to self-sufficiency. To achieve our mission, they lead in the development of innovative programs; provide quality, effective services that strengthen participants' connections with family, school and community; and advocate on their behalf for broader change. Employing both preventive and recuperative strategies, they bring their signature youth and family development interventions to address the needs of youth in foster care, young people who have become involved with the juvenile justice system, or who are homeless. They also work with youth who are disconnected—or at risk of becoming disconnected—from school and community and who are academically, economically, and socially vulnerable, lacking the resources and ability to cope and the interpersonal skills to make a successful transition to adulthood.
