Grand St. Settlement expands opportunities for economically disadvantaged families and individuals by providing culturally relevant services that support community-building, advocacy, self-determination, and an enriched quality of life. Since our founding in 1916, Grand St. Settlement has offered a continuum of programs ranging from early childhood and youth development to supportive services for adults and seniors. Grand St. Settlement was founded to serve low-income immigrant families residing in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Today, the agency serves approximately 6,000 people annually who live on both sides of the Williamsburg Bridge -- in the Lower East Side of Manhattan and in the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Bushwick and Williamsburg. Grand St. Settlement fulfills our mission by offering an integrated approach that provides social services, academic intervention, career exploration, and leadership development with meaningful advocacy and support. Five goals guide the agency's work today. Together, they address the most pressing needs of young children, students, their families, and communities: -Expand learning time during the summer and school year -Help students and their families move towards economic mobility -Promote lifelong health and learning -Strengthen the fabric of low-income communities -Develop institutional capacity to sustain our organization.
