Mass Insight Education and Research Institute Inc. (MIE), founded in 1997, is an independent non-profit that organizes public schools, higher education, business, and state government to significantly improve student achievement, with a focus on closing academic achievement gaps. Our mission is the transformation of public schools into high-performance organizations that bring all students to college readiness. MIE has a 15-year history of evidence-based success in educational reform, addressing two fundamental challenges facing public schools: 1) Closing the academic achievement gap among low-income and minority students, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) coursework, and 2) The transformation of public schools, particularly urban districts, into high-performance organizations. Currently, MIE serves more than 8,000 students across 61 public high schools in 50 Massachusetts districts, including 7 Boston public high schools and 2 Boston charter high schools.
